Managing the Summer Heat
During peak summer, direct solar heat can have a major impact on indoor comfort.
Large windows are important for natural light and openness, but their position and treatment need to be considered carefully. The objective is to bring daylight deep into the home without allowing excessive heat to enter with it.
Several design decisions can help:
- Balconies and architectural projections can provide shade to openings.
- Appropriate glazing helps control heat transfer through large windows.
- Curtains and blinds provide an additional layer of protection when required.
- Thoughtful orientation can reduce prolonged exposure to harsh direct sunlight.
Good daylight and thermal comfort should work together, not compete with each other.
Cross-Ventilation Makes a Noticeable Difference
Air-conditioning is an important part of living in Delhi NCR, but a well-designed home should not depend on it every day of the year. During more pleasant months, natural ventilation can make the home significantly more comfortable.
Windows, balconies and openings positioned across different parts of the home can encourage air to move through rather than enter and stop within a single room.
This becomes particularly valuable during spring and autumn, when opening the home to fresh air can be far more pleasant than mechanically cooling it.
Cross-ventilation also helps kitchens, bathrooms and other moisture-prone areas dry and refresh more effectively. The principle is straightforward: A home should be able to breathe when the weather allows it.
Large Windows Need the Right Specification

Well-sealed doors and windows reduce unwanted drafts, while good-quality glazing creates a better barrier between indoor and outdoor conditions.
Natural sunlight can also become an asset at this time of year.
A space that may benefit from shading during a summer afternoon can feel completely different when winter sunlight enters the room. Designing for Delhi NCR therefore means understanding that the relationship between the home and the sun changes with the season.
Materials Have to Handle More Than Appearance
Delhi NCR also places significant demands on external materials.
Heat, rain, dust and seasonal temperature changes mean facade finishes and outdoor materials need to be selected not only for how they look when installed, but for how they will perform over time.
The same thinking applies indoors.
Flooring, joinery, hardware, glazing and finishes should work together with the environment rather than simply creating a visual effect. A premium material is only valuable when it remains beautiful through everyday use and changing conditions.

It comes from dozens of decisions working quietly together.
The depth of a balcony. The position of a window. The quality of its seal. The direction in which water drains. The way air can move through a room. The materials selected for surfaces exposed to the weather.
